SA: Council vows to continue battle against seaside development
An Adelaide council has vowed to step up its campaign against high-rise developments
as the state government announced further details of a beachside development.
SA Urban Development and Planning Minister JAY WEATHERILL says the final part of stage
2B of the Holdfast Shores development at suburban Glenelg will include a nine-storey residential
building with no more than 130 apartments.
Mr WEATHERILL says the government is aware of community opposition to high-rise apartment
blocks in the area.
But he says the complex was a significant reduction from previous proposals featuring
a 15-storey building with more than 400 apartments.
Holdfast Bay Council mayor KEN ROLLOND says the development plan has angered the community.
He says the council has no intention of conceding the public land to the developers.
